Oliver Glasner offers Marc Guehi update for January transfer window amid reported Manchester City and Liverpool interest

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi could move in the January transfer window, admitted Oliver Glasner. But the Austrian believes that the England international will stay until the expiry of his contract in the summer. Palace held Aston Villa to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday, and Glasner predicted that chairman Steve Parish would ask for “a very high price” to let Palace’s captain leave early.

Oliver Glasner believes that Marc Guehi will remain a Crystal Palace player until the end of the season, but he has not completely ruled out the defender’s exit in January.

Guehi was the subject of interest from Liverpool last summer, and Glasner has previously said he expects the Palace captain to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract in the summer.
Manchester City have also reportedly emerged as one of the front-runners for the 25-year-old’s signature, as injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol have left Pep Guardiola with scant options in defence.
Palace played out a 0-0 draw with high-flying Aston Villa on Wednesday night, and after the match, Glasner admitted that “every single player has a price”.
“If the offer would have been high enough [last summer] and the club was fine with it and Marc wanted to go, then he wouldn’t be a Palace player anymore,” Glasner told Sky Sports.
“Last January would have been the same. Every single player has a price where a club will sell him, when you are Palace because we are not at the end of the food chain in football.
“I think Marc will stay but if he says ‘I want to leave’ and a club pays massive money with five months left of contract, then any player would leave if you are a club like Palace.”
In August, Glasner insisted that his team could not afford to lose Guehi, and the defender’s proposed move to Liverpool on deadline day of the summer transfer window fell through at the final hurdle.
With January seemingly the final opportunity for Palace to recoup a fee for their star man, Glasner suggested that chairman Steve Parish would demand “a very high price” for his sale.
“I don’t know if Marc wants to leave,” Glasner said. “Right now, when I see him playing, training, his commitment – we are talking quite often together – I think the fans can be calm. But you never know what can happen in football.”
Palace – who were quick to act in the January transfer window by completing the club-record signing of Brennan Johnson – are 13th in the Premier League after Wednesday’s draw.
Villa, meanwhile, remain third – five points behind leaders Arsenal ahead of The Gunners’ clash with Liverpool on Thursday.
