As Nigeria marked Democracy Day 2025, renowned entrepreneur and political leader, Dr. Chima Desmond Anyaso, popularly known as Ofuji, has shared an inspiring account of a recent meeting with top lawmakers from Abia State. Using the moment to reflect on the values of unity, sacrifice, and shared democratic responsibility, Dr. Anyaso’s message comes as a timely reminder of the power of purposeful leadership.

In a statement issued to commemorate June 12, Dr. Anyaso recounted how, just weeks before the national celebration, he hosted the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, and the Majority Leader, Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu, at his Lagos residence for an evening of fellowship, robust dialogue, and deep reflections on the future of Abia and Nigeria at large.

According to Ofuji, the gathering was far more than a casual meet-up — it was a meaningful engagement with leaders who have demonstrated genuine commitment to people-driven governance. The lawmakers were joined by close associates and friends, creating an atmosphere conducive to honest and visionary discussion.

Dr. Anyaso stated that during their time together, he encouraged the legislators to remain steadfast in their support for Governor Alex Chioma Otti, describing the Governor as a symbol of transformative leadership whose administration is bringing real change to the state. He also urged them to uphold the integrity of the legislative chambers they represent and ensure they always place the interest of Abians first.

“I had the honour of hosting two distinguished lawmakers — Speaker Emeruwa and Majority Leader Okoro Kalu — in my Lagos home. It was an evening filled with great conversation, shared passion for public service, and collective hope for a stronger Abia and a better Nigeria,” Dr. Anyaso said.

On the occasion of Democracy Day, he praised their dedication to democratic ideals and their unwavering support for a New Abia. According to him, their sincerity and openness during the meeting gave him renewed faith in the future of the state’s leadership.

Reflecting on the significance of June 12, Dr. Anyaso urged Nigerians not to see the day as just a ceremonial observance, but as a sacred reminder of the sacrifices made for democracy. He emphasized that citizens have a vital role in shaping Nigeria’s democratic journey.

“Our democracy is a shared responsibility. With unity, sacrifice, and visionary leadership, we will continue to move forward,” Ofuji noted. “Let Democracy Day remind us that real change happens when good people commit to common goals.”

He ended his message with heartfelt prayers for progress and peace across Nigeria:

“God bless Abia State. God bless Nigeria. Happy Democracy Day!”
