Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate and activist, has vowed to lead Nigerians in a nationwide protest against the growing hardship, despite stern warnings from the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police Force. Organizers of the October 1 protest are undeterred, preparing to confront the government’s failures head-on in what they are calling a “showdown” for justice and survival.
Sowore, a vocal critic of the current administration, took to social media to rally Nigerians, declaring, “NO GOING BACK! #FearlessInOctober.” His words echoed the frustrations of millions as the country faces unprecedented economic challenges, including the continuous rise in fuel prices, now at an unbearable level of nearly ₦700 per liter, and the free fall of the naira, which has driven inflation and further devastated household incomes.
“The last two months alone have been hell for Nigerians,” Sowore said in a passionate interview. “Since our August 1 protest, petrol prices have risen by ₦300 per liter, the naira has crashed, flooding is ravaging cities, and entire communities are being wiped out by bandits.”
The protest, which is expected to draw thousands of citizens, will begin at key locations, including Eagle Square in Abuja and Ikeja Under Bridge in Lagos, with the Lagos march set to kick off at 7:30 a.m. The organizers have reassured the public that the demonstration will be peaceful but resolute in its demand for change.
With millions suffering under rising costs of living, shortages of essential goods, and increased insecurity, Nigerians are rallying behind Sowore and his fearless campaign to hold the government accountable.
