Nnamdi Kanu: Abia Court Restrains Security Agencies From Court Premises, Adjourns Case

0

A High court sitting in Abia state, has restrained security agencies from deploying personnel to court premises each time Nnamdi Kanu’s case is to be heard before the court.

This order was given by Justice Benson Anya at the resumed hearing of the N5bn fundamental human right suit filed by Kanu’s lawyer, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor.

The judge in his judgement today, November 19, 2021, also restricted security operatives from arresting anyone who attends the court to witness the court’s proceeding on the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)’s case.

The order came after Ejimakor decried the number of security personnel in court and their usual behaviour of restricting people from court.

Justice Anya in his ruling said he saw no necessity for deployment of such high number of security agents to the court, stating that in the future, if security agents saw need to deploy to the court, they should apply to the court for permission to do that.

The matter was adjourned to December 10, 2021, for adoption of processes and a hearing on the substantive application seeking Kanu’s release from detention and his repatriation to Britain.

The early date was insisted on by Barrister Ejimakor, who argued that fundamental rights are special cases that must be concluded on time, especially in this instance where Kanu has been in detention since June this year.
