The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has stated that National Identification Number(NIN) is also compulsory for foreigners living and doing business in Nigeria. The NCC stated this in a guideline it released on how to safely register and link the NIN to mobile numbers.
In the said guideline sighted by AFNEWS ,the NCC stated that all persons in Nigeria who use mobile networks are required to register their sim-cards and link them to the NIN database including foreigners.
The telecommunication regulating agency further stated that legally resident foreigners are to obtain a NIN by submitting valid resident/work permit at any National Identification Management Commission (NIMC)enrolment centers nationwide. It added that foreigners on tourist or visiting visas are to tender their international passport to acquire sim-cards for use during their stay in Nigeria.
The NCC however warned that the NIN does not confer citizenship on a foreigner ,but it is issued to serve the purpose of identification.
