The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is set to jail any member of its staff and contractors found in any form of misappropriation of funds meant for projects across the Nine oil producing States.
This follows a recent forensic audit ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari that activities of the Commission be audited.
According the report, NDDC Acting Managing Director Dr. Joi Nuneih who spoke during the weekend, explained that an in house audit is very important ahead of the forensic audit as ordered by Mr President.
The NDDC boss stated that any contractor(s)with fake Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) will be arrested and prosecuted.
She wondered how some Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) that are non-profit making should get contracts from the Commission, adding that they will henceforth justify such contracts.
She spoke during the inauguration of a 50-member Contracts’ Verification Committee, headed by Executive Director Projects Dr. Cairo Ojougboh.
The committee will verify all contracts in the nine states that the Commission covers which include Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Delta, Abia, Imo and Ondo.
Nunieh said NDDC had records of all the contracts, warning that anyone with a fake IPC would be arrested by the security agencies, while advising Nigerians not to buy IPCs and contracts purported to emanate from NDDC.
