With a population of over 200 million people, Nigeria is the largest consumer of palm oil in Africa. In 2018, Nigeria consumed approximately 1.34 million metric tons of palm oil. In the same period, the nation’s palm oil production stood at 1.02 million metric tons resulting to supply shortfall of 0.32 million metric tons.

The economic implication of being a major player in the palm oil market is innumerable. With the recent rise in the price of palm oil and the growing international market for palm oil, we must leverage this to improve our economy and the living standard of our people.

Oil palm production is one of the areas of comparative advantage of the isialangwa people, and with the right government intervention, these farmers can go on to be among the highest palm oil producers in Nigeria.

There is no reason Isialangwa should not have government industries and massive infrastructure to aid the agro-industry.

We will key into this area of comparative advantage and ensure that we provide the required government assistance for Isialangwa to thrive.

The government we propose will not only leverage this area of strength but will stay committed, supervise and produce desired results.

We will ensure that farmers get the required assistance, including access roads to improve the ease of doing business.

We will invest greatly in agriculture, and the results will visibly reflect on our Internally Generated Revenue(IGR), not just on pages of newspapers.

The effect of government involvement in the commercialisation of the oil palm industry will be visible in the exponential growth of the local economy of the people, employment and wealth creation, infrastructural development, etc.

Apart from providing the supergene oil palm hybrid, we will train farmers on agricultural best practices, and attract investors to site oil palm industries in these communities.

As progressives, we understand the need for a robust economy fueled by improvement in economic activities and will run a government centred on this.
