MEDICINE FACULTY: ABSUTH Allegedly Loses NUC Accreditation | READ IN FULL

The Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) Aba, have allegedly lost accreditation of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

It is also alleged that the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), is moving to withdraw its accreditation from the institution all owing to the doctors continued strike for non-payment of salaries and other allowances.

Investigations made by All Facts Newspaper (AFNEWS), suggests that it is the Abia State University (ABSU), that lost NUC’s accreditation to admit new medical students until the back log of intakes already in the university are graduated.

“the reason is that ABSU has NUC accreditation to admit 120 medical students but in the past few years, that number was slightly exceeded since NUC can only accept 120 doctors yearly from ABSU for induction. It was the spill over that made NUC to say don’t admit more students until at least 2 sets are graduated from the school.

“I think to avoid ABSUTH incurring the wrath of MDCN to withdraw accreditation, the government must make sure the doctors strike is called off by paying their salaries so that the clinical students will put in more hours in their training” a source said.
