Massive Nationwide Protest Looms, As NANS Gives FG Fresh Seven-Day Ultimatum Over ASUU Strike

National Association of Nigeria Students ‘NANS’, Zone F South East have given the Federal Government a seven-day ultimatum to see that the ongoing strike embarked by the Academic Staff Union Of Universities is called called off.

 

NANS Zonal Secretary, Comrade Frank Eme Orji made this known on Thursday during Abia Student Community Joint press conference at Umudike in Umuahia.

 

Frank Eme Orji while addressing journalists regretted that the federal government has been nonchalant about the welfare of students across the country who has continued to face harsh realities that the strike ongoing strike has brought upon them.

“It is very unfortunate that Nigeria students are facing very pathetic challenges regarding the ASUU strike, which have made some of them to engage in unwholesome activities, as it is commonly said, an idol man is a devils workshop”

 

He also raised another concern which according to him is a major concern to the student’s community especially in the state which borders on the security of students.

According to him, it is high time the government takes the safety of students seriously as students especially in Abia State are almost on a daily basis kidnapped along the Uturu road axis.

 

Frank Eme Orji commended the state government as well other top government officials  for the efforts they have made so far and implored them to do more to curb the insecurity that has been witnessed there lately.

 

In the same vein, the Student Union Government of both Abia State University and Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture, Comrade Ibeneme Chidera and Chukwuma Ogochukwu raised the concerns of insecurity that the student community is facing in both campuses and the damaging effect that the continued strike is having on them, while calling the federal government and ASUU to reach a comprise and call off the strike within seven days as failure to do so will cause the students to take to the streets on a peaceful protest until their voices are heard.
