Manchester United consider signing 66-cap Super Eagles star

The Red Devils are reportedly gunning for the signature of one of the Super Eagles’ top stars

Manchester United are reportedly weighing a summer move for Leicester City and Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi.

With Leicester now relegated to the Championship, the Nigerian international is seen as an affordable, experienced option to bolster United’s struggling midfield.

Ndidi attracts Manchester United’s interest

At 28, Wilfred Ndidi has built an impressive resume, including over 300 appearances for Leicester City, 66 international caps for Nigeria, and a key role in the club’s FA Cup and Championship wins.

He is more than a destroyer in midfield; his ability to also slot into central defence makes him an ideal utility man. Manchester United, who have struggled with injuries and inconsistency in midfield and defence, could benefit massively from Ndidi’s presence.

With Casemiro ageing and Kobbie Mainoo still developing, Ndidi brings a blend of experience and athleticism that is hard to ignore for the Red Devils.

Reports suggest Manchester United are monitoring his situation closely, especially given his £9 million price tag and relatively modest wage demands.

After spending heavily on Manuel Ugarte last season, a cheaper but arguably more seasoned player like Ndidi could be a smart pickup for Ruben Amorim’s new-look squad.

Premier League rivals and European giants also circling

Manchester United will not have a clear path to Ndidi, with interest also coming from Atletico Madrid, Crystal Palace, Everton, and AS Monaco.

Ligue 1 side Monaco even tried to sign him in January, but Leicester refused to sell mid-season, and the French club could return in the summer.

Super Eagles legend Taribo West believes Ndidi will not remain in the Championship, and recently argued that he still belongs at the top level.

Despite a hamstring injury last season, his absence led to a sharp dip in Leicester’s form, proving his value. With his contract situation and Leicester’s relegation, this summer may be Manchester United’s best, and possibly last, chance to land him.
