Main reason FCCPC Sealed Abuja Chinese Supermarket (VIDEO)
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed Royal Chinese, a supermarket in the China General Chamber of Commerce in Abuja, where Nigerians were prevented from shopping.
The agency sealed the supermarket on Monday following complaints from citizens about the discrimination Nigerians face at the shopping centre.
On Saturday, Nigerians on X complained about being denied entry to the premises of the Chinese-owned store for unknown reasons.
In one of the earliest videos of the incident shared by an X user, a man was heard saying that he had seen the supermarket online and decided to visit. On getting there, he was told the store was strictly for Chinese nationals.
“There is this supermarket I saw online. It is a Chinese Supermarket. They have Chinese stuff inside, food, ramen and all of that,” the user said.
“So, I wanted to go in and check it out and at the gate, the security people told me that the supermarket is strictly for Chinese people. If you are a Nigerian, you can’t go inside or buy anything.”
In a bid to verify this claim, some X users visited the supermarket and found that Nigerians were indeed prohibited from shopping in the supermarket.
A security guard who was interrogated said Nigerians were stopped from entering the premises in January.
The FCCPC stated that the store owner fled the premises.
