Late Diego Maradona’s Medical Staff To Face Trial
Eighteen months after the death of world football idol, Diego Maradona, prosecutors are making calls for the trial of the medical staff that oversaw his treatment.
The Argentine sportsman died at age 60 in 2020 on his journey towards recovery from a brain surgery and decades of battles with cocaine and alcohol addictions.
The prosecuting panel has insisted ”omissions” and mismanagement by the-eight-man medical team of professionals led to Maradona’s demise.
Emphasising on negligence, the panel added the ace was left in a ”situation of helplessness” by the medics who deserted him” to his fate” during his home hospitalization.
With the case already filed on Wednesday, 13th April 2022, neurosurgeon and family doctor Leopoldo Luque and psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov are under investigation as the major people linked to the death of the sports star.
Six others, including psychologist Carlos Diaz and medical coordinator Nancy Forlini, are also accused.
The accused who are charged for “simple homicide with dolus eventualis” -an offense in which a person is negligent while knowing their negligence can cause someone’s death, could face sentences spanning across eight to 25 years in prison.
Maradona is widely acclaimed as the greatest footballer to have lived for his adeptness and creative playing style.
