The Labour Party’s leadership overhaul in Lagos has taken a disturbing twist. Stakeholders uncover over 200 bags of hidden rice and a fetish calabash in the office of former state chairperson, Pastor Dayo Ekong. What happened next shocked everyone. Full story inside.

In what appears to be the beginning of a total cleansing of the Labour Party in Lagos State, stakeholders on Monday, April 7, 2025, officially took over the party’s secretariat following the recent Supreme Court judgement which sacked Julius Abure and other state chairpersons over unlawful appointments.

During the takeover process, stakeholders were left in utter disbelief after uncovering more than 200 bags of rice allegedly hoarded in the premises and reportedly meant for grassroots party members. Even more shocking was the discovery of a fetish calabash wrapped in red cloth, adorned with feathers, and stuffed with unknown substances, found hidden in a drawer belonging to the immediate past state chairperson, Pastor Dayo Ekong.

According to insiders, including a security personnel who spoke under anonymity, the rice was frequently loaded into the ex-chairperson’s vehicle on her orders. Stakeholders allege that the rice, which was meant for distribution to members, was criminally hoarded during critical times.

But the most alarming discovery came when one of the drawers in Pastor Ekong’s desk was opened, revealing what appeared to be ritualistic objects. According to eyewitnesses, the item was wrapped in red cloth, contained names scribbled on white paper, and had the appearance of fetish materials used in traditional rituals.

The room reportedly went silent as fear gripped those present. Eventually, some party members summoned courage, moved the object outside the building, and set it ablaze while offering prayers to spiritually cleanse the premises.

“It is shameful and terrifying that an individual who parades herself as a pastor would keep such items in an office meant to serve the people,” one of the stakeholders lamented. “We found no fewer than 15 names attached to that object—we won’t mention the names for their safety, but we will be reaching out to them individually.”

Party members described the event as a clear abuse of office, vowing to begin a full financial and structural audit of the party’s operations in the state under the ousted leadership.

“This is a new dawn for the Labour Party in Lagos,” another stakeholder said. “We are rebuilding from the ashes of betrayal and injustice. Party property must be used for the people, not hidden for personal gain.”

The stakeholders further promised to convene an all-inclusive convention aimed at restoring democratic values, grassroots engagement, and transparency, especially to reconnect with the vibrant youth movement known as the Obidients.

The shocking revelations follow last week’s Supreme Court ruling, which nullified the leadership of Julius Abure and his state executives for violations of internal democracy and illegal appointments.

With the dust yet to settle, many believe the Labour Party is at a critical juncture—where hard truths must be faced, and bold reforms embraced.

As Labour Party Lagos attempts to heal, members are calling on all genuine stakeholders to rise, rebuild and restore confidence in a party that once represented hope for millions of Nigerians.
