A political earthquake has hit Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, as the Labour Party (LP) solidified total control over the region with a historic mass defection of prominent politicians, business leaders, and community influencers from rival parties. The game-changing rally took place on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the Isuikwuato High School football field.
The massive event turned into a celebration of political realignment, with thousands of enthusiastic supporters joining their leaders in pledging allegiance to the Labour Party under the transformative leadership of Governor Alex C. Otti.
In a show of power and unity, prominent Abians graced the rally, including Governor Alex Otti, Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, Deputy Speaker, members of the State Assembly, traditional rulers, and several party stakeholders. Their presence underscored the significance of the moment and the growing strength of the Abia Arise movement.
Leading the flood of defectors was Hon. Lucky Udoka Johnson Nweke, the current member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly. His public declaration for the Labour Party marked the formal collapse of opposition dominance in the area.

Speaking at the rally, Hon. Nweke declared, “This is the beginning of a new era. The Labour Party has brought development, honesty, and hope. Isuikwuato stands with Governor Alex Otti and the Abia Arise agenda.”
Governor Otti, who was visibly pleased with the turnout, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots development, infrastructural renewal, and inclusive governance. He welcomed the new members warmly and commended their decision to align with the vision that is transforming Abia State.
The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, described the rally as “a testament that the Labour Party has become a movement of the people.” Traditional rulers in attendance also offered royal blessings to Governor Otti and the defectors, endorsing LP’s leadership in the state.
Observers and political analysts have unanimously agreed that with this wave of defections, opposition parties like PDP and APGA have lost political relevance in Isuikwuato, and the Labour Party now enjoys an unshakable hold on the LGA.
