Farmers in kano state that engage in dry season farming known as “Fadama farmers” have called on the state governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to repair more earth dams across the state in order to promotes self-reliance and reduce migrations to urban areas.
This was disclosed to AFNews in kano by the chairman of Kunnawa Dam farmers association Malam Muhammad Mai Albasa when our reporter visited the Dam which was repaired by the federal ministry of agriculture and rural development. He stressed that kano farmers produce both food and cash crops that contributed to the socio-economic progress of kano state and Nigeria at large.
He added that last year alone, Kunnawa Dam farmers produced vegetables and other cash crops worth millions of naira which is an indication that if kano government can afford to repair more Dams, unemployment and urban migration would be reduced which would also be a good channel to the promotion of peace in the state especially at present when the issue of insecurity is taking new dimension.
In conclusion, Mai Albasa assured that kano farmers are always ready to feed the nation which has been the policies of the present administration. He also commended the Minister of Agriculture Sabo Na Nono for initiating programmes that would take Nigeria to a greater height in the area of modern agriculture for the national growth and for providing more employment opportunities through commercial agriculture.
