Kano State Government throws shade at APC Chairman Ganduje over his one-party system proposal, reminding him that China executes corrupt politicians. The jab rekindles debate over his past allege bribery scandal. Read the full explosive story now.

…. Kano hits back at APC National Chairman’s push for Chinese-style governance, reignites corruption scandal

KANO, Nigeria — The political atmosphere in Kano has taken a dramatic twist as the state government appears to have subtly but boldly taken a swipe at the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, over his recent call for a one-party system in Nigeria modeled after China.

In what many observers describe as a “mocking clapback,” Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director of Press to the Kano State Government, posted a loaded message on his official Facebook page, juxtaposing Ganduje’s admiration for China’s governance with an uncomfortable reality.

“China runs a one party system & it works for them ~ Ganduje

China also executes corrupt politicians & it works for them very well…. ~ Author unknown”

While the post did not explicitly attack Ganduje beyond quoting him, the context was clear: the Kano government was not letting his past go unmentioned. Political analysts say the statement carries the weight of accountability and sarcasm, aimed squarely at Ganduje’s controversial legacy.

Ganduje’s China Model Proposal Backfires

The former governor of Kano, now APC chairman, recently advocated for a one-party system in Nigeria, citing China as a model for efficiency and development. But his suggestion has sparked backlash across the political spectrum, with critics pointing to China’s severe anti-corruption stance — including capital punishment — as a stark contrast to Ganduje’s tenure, which was marred by corruption allegations.

The $5 Million Bribe Scandal That Won’t Fade

Ganduje, during his time as governor, was embroiled in a massive scandal after Daily Nigerian released a series of undercover videos in 2018 allegedly showing him receiving bundles of U.S. dollars as bribes from contractors. The scandal triggered outrage and investigations, but no definitive legal action was taken.

Now, with the Kano government subtly reminding the public of China’s habit of executing corrupt politicians, the message is not lost: “If you want China’s system, be ready for its consequences.”

Mixed Reactions and New Accusations

The post ignited a storm of comments on social media. One user, Mubarak Aminu Hamisu, responded by drawing parallels between Ganduje and his former political ally turned rival, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

“It always makes me laugh when members of Kwankwasiyya Movement mock Ganduje over corruption, because none of you know Kwankwaso better than Ganduje does… Remember Kwankwaso is currently having a corruption case with EFCC.”

Another user, Sadeeq Mahmud Abdurrahman, deepened the controversy by alleging systemic corruption in the country:

“In Nigeria, we have hidden monsters who secretly collect two billion naira monthly for what we don’t know.”

These comments allude to fresh revelations from Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, the immediate past Secretary to the Kano State Government (SSG), who recently alleged that the Kano Government had approved a monthly payment of ₦2 billion to Kwankwaso — an action he refused to support, which he claims led to his dismissal.

Old Wounds, New Battles

The unfolding drama between Kano’s current administration and its predecessors underscores deep divisions within the political elite. It also exposes the fragility of moral arguments in Nigeria’s political landscape, where corruption allegations are often wielded as political weapons.

Observers note that as Ganduje pushes for a centralized one-party rule, calls for transparency, accountability, and institutional reform grow louder.
