Plateau State Government has relaxed the curfew earlier imposed on Jos North, Jos South and Bassa Local Government Areas.

Governor Simon Lalong imposed the curfew following the violence that led to loss of many lives, burning of houses and destruction of property.

A 24-hour curfew was imposed on Jos North (where the violence mostly took place), while that of Jos South and Bassa was from 6pm to 6am (dusk to Dawn).

The curfew was in place until Monday morning when the state the governor reviewed it.

Lalong said the curfew in Jos North has been relaxed from 24 hours to 6pm-6am (dusk to Dawn), while that of Bassa and Jos South which was earlier 6pm to 6am would now be from 10pm – 6am.

“After my visit to Yelwa Zangam village, where killings took place, I took a tour of the Jos metropolis to see things for myself.”

“I also engaged the security agencies to review the general security situation in the three Local Government Areas where the curfew was imposed, as well as other parts of the state.

“At the end of the review, Government took the following decisions, which are; the curfew in Jos North is to be relaxed.

“Beginning from Monday 30th August 2021, the curfew shall be enforced from 6pm to 6am until further notice.

“The curfew in Jos South and Bassa is to also be further relaxed. As from Monday 30th August 2021, the curfew shall be enforced between 10pm to 6am until further notice.

“The Ban on Tricycles (Keke NAPEP) and hawkers remains in force within Jos/Bukuru metropolis, and the Plateau Economic and Investment Summit earlier scheduled for the 1st and 2nd of September 2021 has been postponed. A new date will be announced and communicated to all our invitees.

“We apologise for any inconveniences this postponement might cause,” he said.

Lalong urged the citizens to work together and overcome the very difficult moment the state is currently facing.
