JUST IN: Bishop Onuoha condemns relaxation of COVID-19 LOCKDOWN | SEE REASONS

A respected clergy, Dr Sunday Onuoha, has warned that Nigeria may lose the gains achieved in the fight against coronavirus.

He said this while condemning governors that have relaxed the ‘stay-at-home’ order in their states.

Onuoha, a Methodist Church Bishop and Executive Director of Nigeria Interfaith Action Association (NIFAA), cautioned political and religious leaders against throwing caution to the winds in the fight against the pandemic.

The cleric advised governors to learn from the South Korean experience where COVID-19 spread like wildfire after a crusade.

Noting that there was nothing wrong in congregating, he emphasised that such gathering should be done in line with laid down directives.

“We cannot just throw away the successes we have achieved in these past weeks in a twinkle of an eye,” NAN quoted him as saying.

Onuoha appealed to the federal and state governments to make food available to the people while the lockdown lasts.

The clergy urged Nigerians to maintain physical distance, wash hands regularly with soap, use hands sanitiser, wear face masks and gloves, among other safety measures.

Earlier, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) condemned governors’ resolutions to relax the lockdown.

On Friday, the Catholic Church in Rivers State asked its members to ignore Governor Nyesom Wike’s ease of the lockdown and observe Easter Sunday at home.
