The victims of police brutality and extra judicial killings in Abia state, has said that they have not received attention from relevant Bodies after over two months that the judicial panel of inquiry concluded her hearing.

This was in a communique released and made available to ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER, after the affected persons held a meeting, on Wednesday, June 23. According to the victims, they are yet to get the conclusion and possible recommendation from the Panel Committee members, noting that other states like Imo, Kwara and Lagos states have already awarded recommendations to victims in the states. They appealed to the governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu to ensure that necessary measures are put in place to relief the victims .

The communique read;

A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF AN EMERGENCY MEETING BY VICTIMS AND FAMILIES OF VICTIMS OF POLICE BRUTALITY, EXTRA JUDICIAL KILLINGS AND OTHER RELATED MATTERS, ABIA STATE, HELD ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 23, 2021.

The families of/and victims of police brutality and extra judicial killings in Abia state met with utmost concern over the silence that followed the conclusion of hearing by the judicial panel of inquiry set by the Abia State government.
The participants resolved as follows;

1. We sincerely express our gratitude to the federal government and the Abia State government led by Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu (Ph.D), for creating a platform as such to express our predicaments in the hands of security personnel’s

2. We also thank the Panel Members, Staff of Abia State Ministry of Justice, member of the press and the public for their professional conduct and support.

3. We are yet to receive any information/direction from the panel nor any other relevant body on the conclusion cum recommendations made by the panel members.

4 For now, that some other states such as Lagos, Kwara, Bayelsa and Imo (our neighboring state) states, have awarded compensations to victims of police brutality and extra judicial killings.

5. After over two months of conclusion o the processing of the judiciary panel of enquiry, the victims and families of the victims of police brutality in Abia State feel forsaken and forgotten by the Abia state government.

6. That a compensation will make us heave a sigh of relief a bit and lessen the burden caused by some of the erring security personnel’s .

7. We therefore call on the amiable governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, to mandate the panel members to expedite action and ensure that affected victims and families of victims are compensated accordingly

Signed:
1. Kingsheart Ukpai
2. Udoh Ogbonnaya
3. Ohaeri Maxwell
4. Thompson Nsisongabasi
5. Ofoegbu Donatus
6. And other petitioners
