The Abia state Commissioner of Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu has said those saying the governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has not performed are not only malicious in their attempts at discrediting him, but are also ignorant of how government works.
Chief Okiyi Kalu said this in an interaction with correspondents of Abia Facts Newspaper, which held at his official residence in the Commissioners Quarters in Umuahia.
In response to allegations of financial misappropriation and incompetence leveled against his principal, the governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, Chief Kalu said “We are not careful to respond to paid guerrilla journalists, who have taken up arms against a government that is being hailed for having performed, with several signature projects to show for it.”
“What is even more painful is that the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Dr Alex Otti has joined in this same course; Worst of all is that he sources his news from WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media platforms. He is completely ignorant of how the state works, yet he still wants to be governor,” he said.
The commissioner who made reference to the interview which the Commissioner of Finance, Honourable Obinna Oriaku, granted to Flo fm Umuahia, said the administration since its inception till December 31st, had received 158 billion naira, spent 99 billion on salaries, subventions to parastatals and pensions. While it has also embarked on massive reconstruction and renovation of class room blocks as well.
Chief Kalu also advised the people not to take seriously people who feel the state is not safe enough to site businesses, but will consider it good enough to house their overtly-pursued gubernatorial ambitions.
