The People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) northern consensus candidate for the party’s National Chairmanship, Iyorchia Ayu, has given his opinion on the yearning for the 2023 presidential seat to go to the Southern region of the country.
Speaking on Arise TV, on Friday and monitored by AF-NEWS, Ayu opined that if democracy is allowed to take its cause, Nigerians will very soon, not mind where a president comes from.
He pointed that there is an unnecessary focus on who takes the presidency which according to him, is a wrong definition of power.
Ayu charged Nigerians not to divide the country with where the president comes from, adding that any president who cannot develop his community cannot have stability- making reference to Katsina state.
Speaking on his recent emergence as a consensus candidate, Ayu who described himself as a democratic man, expressed willingness to work with Uche Secondus.
He said Secondus remains the party’s chairman until a new one is elected. Ayu also lauded him for contributing enormously in building the PDP, running around States.
Further in his speech, Ayu said his party is not as divided as some Nigerians were projecting it. He promised that PDP will return to make Nigeria better.
“Unity demonstrated today in the north, irrespective of religion, tribe, State, shows that PDP has the capacity to unite Nigeria as it has done in the past.
“We will re-unite this country, develop, expand the economy and make the next generation to be happy to be Nigerians” Ayu promised.
