Portuguese football icon, Cristiano Ronaldo has stressed that the sudden demise of his national teammate, Diogo Jota, doesn’t make sense to him.

Diogo Jota, 28, who got married to his longtime lover barely ten days ago died in a car crash alongside his 26-year-old brother, Andre, earlier today, July 3.

In his tribute to the Liverpool forward, Ronaldo stressed that Jota will always be with him as he reminisced about how they both won the 2025 Nations League together in June.

“It doesn’t make sense”, Ronaldo wrote. “Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you got married. To your family, your wife, and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them. RIP, Diogo and André. We will all miss you.”

Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic has also shared his tribute to Jota. He wrote on 𝕏: “You will be remembered, my friend.”
