Ex-AA Guber Candidate Onyekwere Akym Uche Officially Joins LP with Large Support Base

The Labour Party (LP) in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State has recorded a major political victory following the official defection of the 2023 Action Alliance (AA) gubernatorial candidate in the state, Onyekwere Akym Uche (popularly known as OAU), to the Labour Party.
Speaking during the formal cross-carpeting ceremony, held today in Amaba, Ward 3, Isuikwuato, the Labour Party Chairman of the LGA, Honorable Harrison Onuke, declared that with the joining of OAU and his large number of supporters, “Isuikwuato has finally been captured by Labour Party.”
Onuke emphasized that the movement of such a notable political figure as Onyekwere Akym Uche into the LP structure represents not just a symbolic alignment, but a consolidation of political control in the area. He described the defection as a massive boost to the party’s dominance and grassroots strength ahead of future elections.
Addressing the crowd of enthusiastic supporters and political stakeholders present, Onuke stated:
“Today is a turning point in the political history of Isuikwuato. The entrance of OAU and his supporters into Labour Party means total control has shifted. Isuikwuato is now fully captured.”
He went further to welcome OAU’s loyalists into the party fold, assuring them that the Labour Party remains a progressive platform built on transparency, equity, and the people’s interest.
Onuke also used the opportunity to call on all LP members and new entrants to throw their full support behind the administration of Governor Alex C. Otti. He reminded them of the importance of showing up in unity for the upcoming official reception of all new members by the Governor himself.
“Come out en masse on Thursday, 17th April 2025, at Isuikwuato High School field, to receive our governor, Dr. Alex Otti, who will be formally welcoming all decampees to the Labour Party. It is time to unite and build a better Isuikwuato under the Labour banner.”
The defection of Onyekwere Akym Uche, who ran a visible and vibrant campaign during the 2023 Abia State governorship election under the AA platform, is widely seen as a strategic realignment and further proof of LP’s growing appeal in Abia North and the entire state.
Political observers believe that this development may signal the final collapse of opposition structures in the LGA and position the Labour Party as the unrivalled political force in Isuikwuato.
