The Chief Liaison Officer of Abia State Liaison Office, Abuja, Iheanyi Frank Chinasa, has made a controversial statement regarding the 2023 Bende Federal Constituency election, alleging that the mandate given to him by the people was stolen, while also sending a strong political message ahead of the 2027 election in the constituency.
Chinasa, who was the Labour Party candidate for the Bende Federal Constituency election in 2023 where the current Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, was declared winner, insisted that the people voted for him but the final result did not reflect what happened during the election.
His latest statement is now being interpreted by political observers not just as a complaint about the 2023 election but also as a strong signal that the 2027 Bende Federal Constituency election may be heavily contested.
Speaking on the last election, Chinasa maintained that the people of Bende gave him the mandate but that the outcome of the election did not reflect the will of the voters.
He alleged that the victory was taken from him and openly called out the Deputy Speaker, insisting that the election result did not represent the actual votes cast during the election.
The statement has already begun generating discussions in political circles within Abia State, particularly in Bende Federal Constituency where political activities are gradually building ahead of the next election cycle.
Beyond the 2023 election allegation, Chinasa also made it clear that future elections in Bende Federal Constituency would be different, stating that there would be no rigging or intimidation of voters.
He assured supporters and voters that political stakeholders in the constituency are determined to ensure that votes will count and that election results will reflect the will of the people.
According to him, there will be resistance against any form of intimidation or electoral malpractice, adding that the people are ready to defend their votes.
Political observers say the statement appears to be an early political signal ahead of the 2027 election, suggesting that the next Bende Federal Constituency election may be strongly contested.
Analysts say the Bende Federal Constituency election in 2027 may become one of the most closely watched elections in Abia State due to the political weight of the Deputy Speaker and the growing political movement in the constituency.
They note that Chinasa’s statement suggests that political actors and supporters are already preparing for the next election and may resist any attempt at electoral manipulation.
Observers also believe that the statement may mark the beginning of early political positioning and mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections in Abia State.
With political tension gradually rising, many believe the 2027 Bende Federal Constituency election may become a major political contest in the state.
