The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Abia State chapter have expressed great disappointment over the postponement of the presidential and gubernatorial elections earlier scheduled for Saturday, February 16th and Saturday Match 2nd 2019 respectively.
In a press release on Monday February 18th, IPAC expressed disappointment over the sudden postponement of the elections few hours to actual voting, despite the huge financial, human and material resources that have gone into preparations for the polls.
The police was commended by the body , INEC and other security agencies for the proper arrangement put in place during the distribution of election materials on Friday, February 15th before the news of the sudden postponement broke out, and urged them to replicate same on all the polling units in the state to forestall breakdown of law and order.
IPAC however said that the body is aware of some grand plan by some desperate politicians to cause chaos and security breaches in some areas of the state, namely Isialangwa and Aba metropolis, by using militants and cultists to snatch election materials, harass and intimidate voters.
The body warned those candidates to desist from such plan, as the body in collaboration with EFCC and other security agencies have set up security surveillance team to monitor those areas.
The IPAC further called on INEC and the police to investigate and prosecute desperate politicians and their cohorts caught with already written election result sheets recently in Umuahia before the commencement of the presidential and National Assembly election.
