Following the rapid hike in insecurity, the Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle has announced that he would resign his position if that will bring peace to the State.
Matawalle, who spoke on National Television , disclosed this when asked if he is intimidated by the Federal Government’s declaration of a ‘No-Fly Zone’ in his state.
He explained that he is not power-hungry, adding that he has been having a sleepless night to protect the people of Zamfara.
The governor said: “I am ready to accept any solution that will bring security to my state.
“I am not intimidated. If I know that my resigning as a governor will make the people sleep with their two eyes closed, I can resign. I am ready to do what will bring security.
“I am not power-hungry. I have been having a sleepless night to protect the people of Zamfara State.”
President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday, during the Security Council Meeting in Abuja, ordered a no-fly zone in Zamfara State , banning illegal mining following issues of insecurity in the State.
This was disclosed to newsmen by the National Security Adviser (NSO), retired Maj. -Gen. Babagana Monguno.
However, the declaration of a no-fly zone in Zamfara State has roused opinion from various angle, while some are calling for same in other northern states suffering from insecurity.
