Increased Police Presence at the Abia State House of Assembly:  No Cause for Alarm – Speaker

The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji FNSE has called on Abians to remain calm and not be alarmed by the increased presence of the police and other security agencies at the Assembly complex, saying that such increased presence was necessitated by need to maintain the security of the legislative complex.

Contrary to the insinuations in some quarters, the non-sitting of Members for now has nothing to do with any approval or non-approval of any request from the Executive as such requests are usually channeled as Appropriation Bill or supplementary Appropriation Bill and as of today, there is no request for approval of any Appropriation by the Executive that is pending before the House. The House had since passed both requests last December.

The Speaker requests security agencies in the state to warn political actors working to destabilise the State House of Assembly to desist from such acts and toe the path of peace so that the current administration ends in peace.
