For the political gladiators, this season of politicking is that which brings to the fore their capacity, ability, track-record and ability to develop strong edges that can place them at vantage positions over their opponents.

It was on this basis that the focus was beamed on the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South federal constituency at the green chambers of the National Assembly, Honourable Sam Onuigbo. Honourable Onuigbo who in an interaction – on the program ‘Focal Point’ – with Abia Facts’ Emenike Iroegbu enumerated reasons why he remains the man to beat in the forthcoming election for the seat of Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South federal constituency at the green chambers of the National Assembly.

Honourable Onuigbo who is the House committee chairman on Climate Change took out time to reel out his achievements for his constituents. Honourable Onuigbo narrated some of the achievements which he said include motions and bills such as the motion to stop the superimposition of the national coat of arms on the national flag; the bill on the erosion at Umuonuma; several bills on climate change.

When interrogated on the issue of constituency project which has come to the fore as a major criterion for assessing the performance of legislators in Nigeria, he was detailed on his intervention on the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road where he narrated how due to his intervention, a letter of recognition and commendation was written to him by the Honourable Minister for Works Power and Housing; together with praises heaped on him during the flag off of the road construction on the 16th of December 2016.

He also recounted some projects which were attracted by him over the course of his three-year stay at the national assembly: The Elemaga-Itunta bridge; Amachara erosion control project worth 400 million naira; The skill acquisition centre at Apumiri Ubakala; 4 Blocks of classroom in the 3 local government areas of the constituency; Hospital projects in Olokoro and Obohia Ibere. And many more projects.

On the issue of equity, to ensure that the various local governments in the constituency are carried along, Honourable Onuigbo maintained that though the charter of equity has been maintained amongst the local governments, the issue of rotation which most times denies constituencies of high ranking member in legislative chambers has been addressed by the major stakeholders of the constituency. In his words “you rank to attain so much and bring so much to the people”, he appealed for the confidence of the people, to ensure that much is brought to his people.

The Honourable member also took out time to explain the meaning of the acronym on which his campaign is hinged on: Effectiveness, Accessibility and Responsiveness ‘EAR’.
