Hon. Alexander Ikwecheghi is under police investigation following allegations that he assaulted a Bolt driver, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya, by slapping him multiple times and issuing a threat in Abuja. The police are handling the case closely, warning against the misuse of authority in intimidating citizens.

In a brewing scandal, the Nigeria Police Force has opened an investigation into an alleged assault by Hon. Alexander Ikwecheghi on a Bolt driver, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya. The incident reportedly occurred on October 27, 2024, in the upscale Maitama district of Abuja. According to Mr. Abuwatseya, the altercation began after he requested Hon. Ikwecheghi to step outside to retrieve a parcel. In response, the legislator allegedly reacted by slapping the driver three times and issued a menacing warning, stating that he could “make the driver disappear.”

Following the confrontation, Mr. Abuwatseya filed an official complaint at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters, prompting the FCT Command to initiate an investigation into the matter. The police confirmed that they are fully aware of the incident and emphasized their commitment to impartiality. In a public statement, the Force urged individuals, particularly public figures, to refrain from using the office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) or any other authority as a tool for intimidation.

As the investigation proceeds, Hon. Ikwecheghi’s alleged actions have triggered widespread condemnation. Social media users have voiced their concerns about what they perceive as an abuse of power, calling for a thorough police inquiry to ensure justice is served. Observers argue that incidents like this not only highlight the challenges faced by service providers but also raise critical questions about accountability among public officials.

The Nigeria Police Force, in its statement, reiterated its dedication to justice and maintaining public trust. “Any attempt to misuse authority or influence will not be tolerated, and this investigation will follow due process,” stated an FCT Command representative. Mr. Abuwatseya’s case has sparked intense public interest, with many awaiting the outcome as police continue their probe into Hon. Ikwecheghi’s alleged misconduct.
