A former Secretary to Abia State Government, Dr. Eme Okoro has warned that zoning is a constitutional provision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia and therefore should not be jettisoned for a peaceful transition of power in 2023.
Dr. Okoro who disclosed this on Monday in an interview on FLO FM radio program, THE PLATFORM, said that zoning has been instrumental to the peaceful transition of power the state has witnessed since its democratic dispensation.
He noted that zoning is a unanimous decision of the elders across party lines in the state and was orchestrated by Senator T.A Orji and chaired by Bishop Sunday Onuoha.
He frowned at the party zoning of the governorship to two senatorial zone (Abia Central and Abia North) noting that it is against the template that was constituted by the elders of the state.
“the people who zoned it to two senatorial zones are the people who want to violate that decision”
According to him, the governor is a beneficiary of the concept of equity arrangement and therefore should uphold it as anything short of that would result to hitting up the polity.
“the governor should make his body language explicitly clear in a way that it is in the confines of the zoning arrangement”
He asserted that Abia North stakeholders cannot and will not accept the present zoning of the governorship position that included Abia Central and posited that they would do anything both legally and democratically possible to achieve a governor from Abia North extraction in 2023.
