I Started Buhari’s Impeachment Move- Abaribe Hint On Senators Plans After The Six-Week ultimatum
Former minority leader of the Senate, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has said that he started the move for the impeachment of of president Muhammadu Buhari.
Abaribe stated this on ARISE interview monitored by ALL FACT NEWSPAPER on Wednesday when clarifying the reasons behind the call for the president’s impeachment by opposition parties’ senators.
According to him, the intention of the opposition senators was to let Nigerians know that the Senate do not play to the gallery as they are not in the Red Chambers for the interest of Buhari or themselves but Nigerians who expressed confidence and elected them in the House.
The Senator who expressed displeasure on the lackadaisical manner president Buhari has gone about with tackling the security challenges stated that it was now expedient for his impeachment.
“After the Kuje correctional center’s attack, we had expected the president to take decisive actions in sacking some security personnel’s to reaffirm to Nigerians his efforts in tackling the insecurity but up until now, nothing has happen”
“The laidback of Buhari in taking prompt and decisive actions in sacking security chiefs that are not performing is what is giving impetus to their incompetence”
Abaribe noted that the Senate has invited security chiefs to the Red Chamber several times to come and hint on the insecurity that has plagued the country but they have always been evasive about it, which has prompted them to take proactive actions on the person who is his responsibility to appoint them.
He revealed that before the Senators came openly to demand for the presidents’ resignation, they had held an executive meeting with the Senate President, Ahmed Lawal, who agreed that the issue of insecurity would be discussed in the senate floor but his excuse that it was not in the order of the plenary was the reason they staged a walkout.
He stated that with the rate of insecurity in the country, no multi-national company would want to invest in it.
He further noted that after the the six-week ultimatum given to the president to tackle insecurity, if he fails to take drastic measures to its effect, they would proceed to take impeachment action against him.
