How Sowore Omoyele Was Re-Arrested, Detained in Abuja ‘Abattoir’ | READ IN FULL
By Nancy Okafor:
Former Presidential Candidate and Human Rights Activist, Omoyele Sowore was on Thursday, February 24, re-arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja.
A statement released by his aide, Femi Adeyeye, said Sowore was being detained at the dreaded ‘Abattoir’ SARS station.
‘As at the time of releasing this statement, he is currently at the dreaded SARS unit called ‘Abattoir’ and men from that station were the ones who carried out the arrest.”
“We are monitoring these events and we can assure all members that these re-occurring illegalities and attacks won’t be allowed to stand. The specific reason(s) for his arrest remain sketchy at this time.” Adeyeye said.
ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER (AF-NEWS) learned that the fiery activist was picked up after stepping out of the court where the chairman and members of the African Action Congress (AAC) Party had converged to witness a case.
Sowore had filed an appeal against the ruling of the Federal High Court that declared Leonard Nzenwa as the acting Chairman of the AAC.
According to the police the activist was arrested following a petition written against him by former member, House of Representatives, Hon. Ned Nwoko. However, he was released in less than 24 hours.
Sowore himself confirmed his release from the office of the former SARS located at Guzape district of the Federal Capital Territory.
He said in a tweet, “Released from Nigeria Police Force idiotic arrest and detention. They claimed I defamed Ned Nwoko! Useless people.”
