Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have recovered the body of a newborn baby abandoned beside the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.

The dead baby, said to be a day-old, was found beside Ayinke House on Saturday by the security department of LASUTH who notified the police.

The Nation reports this was the second case of an abandoned day-old baby recovered by the police in one week.

According to a statement by spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, policemen were immediate to the scene where the body of the baby, suspected to have been abandoned overnight, was found.

He said the operatives contacted the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for the evacuation of the corpse as soon as they confirmed the baby was dead.

“The baby was suspected to have been abandoned by his mother and must have been exposed to risks that caused his death,” he said.
