How Police Officers Allegedly Extorted Phone Repairer In Abia | READ IN FULL
One Kingsley Acen Ifeanyi, has alleged that some police officers attached with Central Police Station (CPS) Umuahia, Abia State, extorted him on Friday, May 13.
Speaking with All Facts Newspaper (AFNEWS), Ifeanyi who hails from Ovim in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of the state, said he was accosted while on a motorcycle (which has been banned in major cities of the state) by two police men who claimed to be attached with CPS Umuahia.
On why he was on a motorcycle, the victim who is a phone repairer, said a customer of his who is a LAPO agent needed to beat a deadline on submitting her report but her Ipad was bad.
“in order to save time, I had to order for a bike man to take me to Umuahia from Isuikwuato to meet up because going to Umuahia by public transport might cost me almost 3 hours going and coming back and I might not be able to meet up”.
He said he had wrapped up his business in town, but went to buy somethings at Isi Gate area when he met the said police officers.
“they showed us ID Cards that they are from CPS, that a robbery was carried out yesterday in Umuahua with bike; that we are suspects.”
According to him, he tried explaining to them why he was in town on bike but they insisted to take he and the bike man to the police station.
“I said no problem, hence we pleaded and they refused. They carried us. Reaching Okpara square round about, they turned and parked saying if they take us to station they will cease the bike, and they are going to sell the bike auction and they will pieces the bike.”
“I tried to plead with them but they insisted that I must give them money; from 50, 000 to N20,000. I told them I don’t have such amount in my account that the only money I had was N10,000”.
Ifeanyi said he offered to make a transfer to the officers but they insisted on using a PoS. He said the policemen took him to a second PoS stand to withdraw N10,000 as the first stand had no money to pay.
The victim said they drove him through Aba road/Umudike road before Area Command.
Efforts made by AFNEWS to reach the Abia State Police PRO, Geoffrey Ogbonna proved futile as his phone number was not reachable as at press time.
