Tensions continue to rise in Amaoba Ime as Comrade Ifeanyichukwu Nwabuko challenges the authority of Eze Otuwa Nwakwo, accusing him of spreading falsehoods. Nwabuko calls on the Abia State Government to intervene in the escalating leadership dispute to restore peace and stability. The growing conflict has disrupted community harmony, with calls for state involvement to resolve the leadership impasse.
The once peaceful Amaoba Ime Autonomous Community in Ikwuano Local Government Area is now embroiled in a leadership dispute that threatens to tear the community apart, with mounting tensions between His Royal Highness Eze Otuwa Nwankwo and Comrade Ifeanyichukwu Nwabuko. In a detailed response to claims made by the monarch, Nwabuko has dismissed the allegations as false, urging the Abia State Government to intervene and restore peace in the troubled community.
The dispute reached a boiling point when Eze Otuwa, in a radio broadcast on September 27, 2024, accused Nwabuko and his son of involvement in local land issues. Nwabuko, however, denies any involvement, accusing the traditional ruler of spreading misinformation and stirring discord. According to Nwabuko, Eze Otuwa has a history of making unfounded claims, citing a previous incident in 2016 where the monarch made false accusations about the vandalism of a community transformer.
The core of the conflict, Nwabuko claims, lies in the monarch’s actions regarding land matters and his alleged failure to comply with traditional and state laws governing the Amaoba Ime Autonomous Community. Nwabuko argues that the monarch has overstepped his boundaries, encroaching on community spaces and using his influence to manipulate land ownership without the consent of the people.
“His actions are a clear violation of Abia State’s traditional laws, and they only serve to create more division within the community,” Nwabuko stated. He further highlighted that the title of “Eze” claimed by Otuwa is in direct contravention of the state’s official traditional authority guidelines, as the community does not recognize him as the legitimate ruler under these rules.
Amidst these escalating tensions, Nwabuko calls on the Abia State Government to take immediate action. He stresses the need for state intervention to prevent further division and restore stability. “The government must step in to restore order. If left unchecked, this dispute could lead to further unrest in our community,” Nwabuko warned.
Community members have expressed growing concern about the lack of government involvement in addressing the leadership conflict. With Eze Otuwa allegedly mishandling community resources and development funds, as well as ongoing disputes over land ownership, many believe the state’s inaction has emboldened the monarch’s controversial behavior.
The call for peace and state intervention is becoming more urgent as the conflict disrupts the fabric of Amaoba Ime. Nwabuko’s appeal for a peaceful resolution has resonated with many in the community who are eager for a return to stability. With the Abia State Government yet to take decisive steps, all eyes are now on the state leadership to bring about a resolution.
