Governor Siminialayi Fubara of Rivers State condemns the PDP for failing the state amidst political turmoil, stating that Rivers will now focus on truth and democracy, moving beyond party politics.
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, has expressed his disappointment in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the party has failed the people of Rivers State amidst the ongoing political crisis.
During a meeting with a delegation from the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, led by its Chairman, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Governor Fubara emphasized that the state is now prioritizing truth over party politics.
“In our State today, we are no longer focusing on party politics. We are part of a movement, so you can’t blame me for distancing myself from the party. The party has failed us here, so what we are doing is standing firm on the soil of Rivers State to defend democracy,” Governor Fubara declared.
He urged the committee members to consider the interests of Rivers State in their recommendations for the privatisation and commercialisation of public companies. Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of the state having stakes in these companies to ensure their protection and viability.
“I will appeal to you that in this process of privatisation, any asset related to our State that needs privatisation should involve the Rivers State Government. We have the resources to acquire shares or portions of these assets. Only when we own these assets can they be protected and become viable for both the state and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he stated.
Governor Fubara’s remarks highlight a shift in the political landscape of Rivers State, as the state moves beyond party affiliations to prioritize the well-being of its citizens and the defense of democratic principles.
