The Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force have renewed their commitment to tackling insecurity in Abia State through strategic collaboration. This follows a high-level security meeting between the new Brigade Commander of the 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Brigadier General H.M. Bello, and the Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, at the State Headquarters in Umuahia.
During the visit on Thursday, Brigadier General Bello, who recently assumed command of the 14 Brigade, emphasized the need for a strong working relationship between the military and the police to bolster internal security in Abia. He acknowledged the police as the lead agency in internal security operations and underscored the importance of synergy in tackling crime and criminal activities across the state.
Bello stressed that the rising security threats in the country require robust inter-agency cooperation, particularly in intelligence sharing and joint operations. He assured the police of the Army’s readiness to provide full support in areas of logistics, manpower, and rapid response to security threats.
Responding, CP Danladi Isa reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to fostering a strong partnership with the Army. He emphasized that intelligence gathering, swift action, and professional conduct are critical to restoring peace and stability in Abia State.
Isa highlighted previous security successes achieved through collaboration between the police and military, citing recent operations that led to the dismantling of criminal hideouts and the arrest of notorious suspects in the state. He expressed optimism that the renewed partnership would significantly reduce crime rates and enhance public confidence in security agencies.
The meeting concluded with a strategic discussion on improving operational efficiency, conducting joint patrols, and ensuring professionalism and discipline among officers of both agencies.
Security experts believe that such alliances between security agencies are vital in addressing the rising security challenges in Nigeria, particularly in states facing threats of armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
As Abia State continues to battle various security threats, residents have expressed optimism that the renewed synergy between the Army and Police will lead to a safer environment.
