Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia North warns about the severe impact of heavy rainfall and natural disasters on road infrastructures in the region. He highlights the challenges faced due to flooding and erosion, urging support for ongoing development efforts.
According to News Leverage, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has expressed concern over the significant damage caused by natural disasters to road infrastructure in Abia North, Abia State, and across Nigeria.
Addressing the ward chairmen of the OUK Movement at his Camp Neya home in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area on Tuesday, the former Abia State Governor highlighted the destructive effects of erosion, climate change, and flooding on the region’s road networks.
A recent photo circulating on social media showcased a washed-out section of the Ugwueke road due to heavy flooding. The image was accompanied by claims of poor construction and was linked to Senator Kalu, who had facilitated the road project.
In response, Senator Kalu stated, “Heavy rainfall around this month destroyed the radio station I have here in Igbere; if you go behind my house, the erosion menace there is terrible. We have natural disasters like flooding, erosion, and climate change ravaging Abia North Senatorial District, Abia State, and Nigeria at large. It has caused many problems for us—including the Ugwueke road and many others.”
He emphasized that the natural disasters occurring in Abia North and Nigeria are causing significant damage to infrastructure projects, despite his efforts to develop the area. “Our people should appreciate what we are doing for them. The honest truth is that others are not doing what we are doing. I have worked very hard to bring down projects to Abia North Senatorial District. It is because I love my people; that is why I have concentrated on the development of Abia North Senatorial District.”
Senator Kalu also urged his supporters to continue backing the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is striving to improve living conditions for all Nigerians. “I know things are very tough. It is not easy anywhere, but the president is working very hard to make things easy for all. It is time to unite and support the president to move Nigeria forward for the good of all,” he said.
