Saheed Olabomi, the commercial motorcyclist who sustained accidental gunshot injuries on Tuesday evening in Osogbo, is dead.
According to information , Olabomi, who had been in a stable condition, died in the early hours of Friday between 4 and 5am at the Uniosun Teaching Hospital (UTH), Osogbo.
As at press time, his father, Adewale Oyedele Olabomi and members of his immediate family declined to speak on his demise citing the fact they are aggrieved.
Before his death, Saheed Olabomi, who was a nephew to the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Olabomi, was visited by a delegation of the state government composed of the Special Adviser on Works and Transport, Engr. Hussein Olatoke Olaniyan; Special Adviser on Security, Mrs. Abiodun Ige; and the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Olawale Olokode.
Late on Tuesday had broken the news of the shooting of Saheed Olabomi and the ensuing protest in the Oke-Fia and Oke-Onitea areas of the state capital.
The Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, said some yet to be identified mobile policemen on patrol, while trying to clear the traffic gridlocks at Oke-Onitea area, fired shots at the ground which propelled stones that hit the deceased.
She also stated that as a result of the incident, other commercial motorcyclists went on rampage, burning tyres on the highway and preventing the free flow of traffic.
However, as at the time of filing this report, attempts to get her to comment on the recent development proved abortive as she did not respond to calls.
