The Abia State Government has uncovered widespread age falsification among civil servants, involving manipulated court affidavits and NPC certificates. Learn about the crackdown and measures being taken to address this fraud.
The Abia State Government has uncovered widespread age falsification among civil and public servants through manipulated court affidavits and fake Date of Birth (DoB) certificates from the National Population Commission (NPC).
In a statement released on Thursday, Mrs. Ngozi Obioma, the Head of Service for Abia State, highlighted the disturbing trend of officials falsifying their ages to extend their service years. She revealed that some civil servants approach the NPC to obtain fraudulent DoB certificates and use court affidavits to support their false claims.
Mrs. Obioma sternly warned those involved in these fraudulent practices to desist immediately. She emphasized that anyone caught falsifying their age would face summary dismissal from service and prosecution.
This revelation comes on the heels of a verification exercise launched by the state government in 2023. The exercise aimed to strengthen the civil and public service and eliminate ghost workers. As part of this initiative, civil servants were directed to upload their credentials to an online government-approved portal.
The Abia State Government is committed to maintaining integrity within its workforce and ensuring that all employees adhere to the law. This crackdown on age falsification is a significant step towards achieving a transparent and efficient public service system.
