How Akpabio’s Alleged Secret Deal With PDP Is Killing APC in Akwa Ibom – Party Chieftains Cry Out

APC elders in Akwa Ibom have petitioned President Tinubu, alleging that Senate President Godswill Akpabio is deliberately weakening the party to favor PDP and Governor Umo Eno ahead of 2027 elections. Read full details.

A major political crisis has erupted in Akwa Ibom State as chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) accuse Senate President Godswill Akpabio of deliberately weakening the party structure to benefit the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a strongly worded petition to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC elders in the state claimed that Akpabio, in collaboration with the Minister of Petroleum (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, and the APC State Chairman, Stephen Ntukekpo, is working to hand over the party’s control to PDP and Governor Umo Eno.

In an open letter titled “The Worrisome State of APC in Akwa Ibom: A Call for Your Urgent Intervention”, signed by Elder Okokon James, Hon. Peter Ibanga, and Chief Victor Affiah (representing Uyo, Eket, and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Districts), the chieftains painted a grim picture of the party’s future if immediate action is not taken.

“What the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, is doing to the die-hard members of the APC in Akwa Ibom State is the height of betrayal and treachery. History and posterity will not be kind to him and all those he is using to kill the party.”

They allege that Akpabio has directed party officials to sabotage APC in the state, making it impossible for the party to function effectively.

According to the petition, Akpabio’s grand strategy involves:

✅ Weakening APC to allow PDP an easy ride in the 2027 elections.

✅ Securing PDP’s support for his third-term senatorial ambition.

✅ Sabotaging President Tinubu’s second-term chances by ensuring APC has no grassroots support in Akwa Ibom.

The elders warned:

“We want to assure Mr. President that he won’t have party members to receive him when he comes to Akwa Ibom next year if urgent steps are not taken to revive the party.”

“The soul of the APC in Akwa Ibom has been sold to PDP, and members are gearing up to join the upcoming coalition of opposition to your second-term ambition.”

The APC leaders accused both Akpabio and Minister Ekperikpe Ekpo of actively sabotaging the party, warning that if APC members defect to opposition parties, President Tinubu should hold Akpabio and Ekpo responsible.

“The Senate President has so weakened the APC structure that he is now afraid his 2027 re-election bid may be a mirage without the support of PDP and Governor Umo Eno.”

With 2027 fast approaching, tensions continue to rise within APC as party members demand urgent intervention to prevent a total collapse of the party in Akwa Ibom State.
