… Papilo Congratulates Chairman John Ogbuh, Says Warriors Now a Force in Nigerian Football
Legendary Nigerian football icon and Chairman of Enyimba FC, Ambassador Nwankwo Kanu, has sent a heartfelt congratulatory message to Chief John Ogbuh, Chairman of Abia Warriors FC, following the club’s historic qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup — the first in the history of the Umuahia-based team.
The ‘Umu Chineke Boys’ booked their continental spot in dramatic fashion on Sunday after pulling off a thrilling comeback victory against Elkanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri in a Matchday 37 encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), played at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
The win catapulted Abia Warriors to 60 points — a tally that mathematically secured them a CAF ticket with one match left to play, making it impossible for any trailing club to overtake them.
In a congratulatory letter shared via Enyimba Media, Kanu, also a FIFA Ambassador, commended the meteoric rise of Abia Warriors under Chief Ogbuh’s leadership, describing the achievement as one that should be celebrated by all lovers of football — not just in Abia State, but across the nation.
“On behalf of Enyimba FC, I sincerely congratulate you and the entire Abia Warriors FC for your first-ever continental ticket in the history of the club,” Kanu wrote. “This achievement is worthy to be celebrated by every football-loving fan of your club, the state, and the nation in general.”
Recognizing Abia Warriors as both a “sister club and partner in progress,” Kanu lauded Chief Ogbuh for turning the team into a formidable force in just two years of leadership.
“As Chairman of our sister club and partner in progress, I celebrate your remarkable stride. Just two years in office, and Abia Warriors has become a force to reckon with in Nigerian football. Congratulations Chairman!”
He also praised the players, technical crew, and staff for their “determination and perseverance,” acknowledging that the club’s hard-earned success was a product of teamwork, vision, and leadership.
This historic CAF Confederation Cup qualification marks a major milestone in the story of Abia Warriors, who, despite years of participating in the top flight, had never reached the continental stage — until now.
As preparations begin for their continental journey, all eyes will be on Umuahia to see how the team navigates this new challenge. For now, however, the celebration continues.
