The Abia State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu has lauded Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for taking care of orphanage children in the State and making them his own children due to his passion and likeable disposition.
Chief Kalu who stated this in Umuahia, made reference to one master Chinagorom Peter of Obokwe Asa in Ukwa West L.G.A who was taken to Lagos State by one Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwoko and turned him into a sex slave, saying that the State government frowns at it.
The Information Commissioner explained that it is very wrong for people to maltreat orphans, saying that such is not good in the sight of God.
He expresses delight that the little boy has since returned to Abia State and now under the care of the State Government, and thanked the Governor and his Wife Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu for ensuring that Master Chinagorom Peter is taken care of, adding that the government frowns at all forms of abuse against the children.
Speaking in an interview, Master Chinagorom Peter, who said he is 15 years of age, further explained that as an orphan, he has no place to stay until one Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwoko came to Aba and took him to Lagos State where he used him to make money, by carrying him about in a Wheelbarrow to beg for alms, stressing that at night, he will turn him to a sex slave.
He explained that when he was finally brought back to Abia State by a good Samaritan who handed him over to the government to be taken care of, and thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and his wife for being kind to him.
On her part, the Director Child Development, Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs Lady Ijeoma Nwanosike explained that the Ministry is on top of the situation to ensure that no child of Abia origin is abused by any means, noting that the Commissioner for Women Affairs is collaborating with different agencies of government to protect the Children against abuse.
