House-to-house search for virus syptoms carriers begins in Kano

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic has sent 3,300 informers on house-to-house search for sufferers of coronavirus symptoms in Kano metropolis.

National Coordinator Dr Sani Aliyu, who stated this on Monday said 20 rapid response teams had been sent to reach out to those who needed testing.

Aliyu, who expressed appreciation to partners who aided the PTF’s response in Kano, especially the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for assisting with about 30 vehicles, said all efforts by the task force had been in collaboration with those of the state government.

He said: “We continue to work closely with the state government to ensure that the problem and the issues in Kano are resolved as quickly as possible. We have a strong team, supporting the case management aspect of the response, led by the Federal Ministry of Health.

“In addition to this, we have continued to work  closely with our partners to deploy technical staff to support the Kano response. We have at least 41 staff from the NCDC and 17 from the WHO at the moment in Kano.

“We have, through our partners, also funded two facilitators by local government area and will be establishing one sample centre per local government area in the state. We are grateful to INEC for mobilising 30 vehicles to be sent to Kano and at least 25 ambulances mobilised through the federal government, Dangote Foundation and the BUA Group.

Aliyu added: “We have also secured, through our partners, an additional 20 rapid response teams that will enable us to reach people who need to be tested in Kano, within a very short period of time.

“We have also mobilised 3,300 informers through the WHO polio programme for house-to-house search and they will be commencing a seven-day motorised campaign across major urban areas in Kano”.
