The Abia State House of Assembly has asked the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to sack the General Manager of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, ASEPA and the Deputy General Manager Aba zone if they cannot perform their statutory duties.
The House further summoned the Embattled ASEPA GM and DGM Aba to appear before the House of Assembly.
This summons followed the matter of urgent public importance
Hon. Onuzuruike pointed out that if urgent steps were not taken, there could be risks of epidemic and other air-borne diseases as a result of lack of proper evacuation of refuse dumps in the area.
The lawmaker urged the house to summon the management of the agency to find out the reason behind the act as the development had become an embarrassment to the state.
Supporting the motion, the Member Representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Bar. Jerry Uzosike expressed displeasure over the development noting that as a revenue yielding agency, it ought to live up to its responsibilities.
On his part, the member representing Ikwuano State Constituency, Mr Stanley Nwabuisi explained that proper waste management could not be over emphasized and called on the house to carry out its oversight function on the matter.
