The member who represents Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Prestige Ossy has joined senior government officials in marking the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
He commended the efforts of the armed forces at the various theaters of operations.
The ceremony is held on January 15, every year to remember Nigeria’s fallen heroes, who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Ossy said the sacrifices of fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the unity of the nation must not be forgotten. He urged widows of fallen heroes to be courageous and engage in activities that would improve their well-being even as he called for an upward review of the pension allowance for retired military officers and men.
Speaking further, the Abia federal legislator called for sustained professionalism by the officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces and enjoined Nigerians to pray for those currently involved in different operations across the country.
He also urged Nigerians not to allow the supreme sacrifice of Nigeria soldiers to be in vain, adding that Nigerians owe a depth of gratitude to war veterans for their patriotic zeal and supreme sacrifice to ensure that peace and unity is sustained in the country.
