A new chapter has opened for the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Abia State Chapter, following the emergence of a fresh executive leadership that has already signalled a renewed drive for professionalism, inclusiveness, and strategic relevance.

The transition, which followed the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past executive led by Deacon Olunkwa Felix, culminated in the election of Onyinye Ralph-Nwachukwu, FNIPR, as the new State Chairman during the Chapter’s 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections held at the Police Officers’ Mess, Umuahia.

The keenly observed exercise, supervised by the National President of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, represented by Dr. Ahmed Sajoh, FNIPR, marked a defining moment for the Abia Chapter, as Onyinye Ralph-Nwachukwu emerged as the first female Chairman in the history of the Institute in the state.

In her acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman described her emergence as a collective victory rather than a personal achievement, pledging to lead with humility, transparency, and purpose.

She outlined a forward-looking agenda focused on inclusive leadership, strengthened ethical standards, increased visibility of the Chapter, and strategic partnerships that would reposition Abia NIPR as a reference point for professional excellence.

According to her, the new leadership will prioritise consultation, unity, and member engagement, stressing that every voice within the Institute matters in shaping its future.

Ralph-Nwachukwu also acknowledged the contributions of past leaders, describing their sacrifices as foundational to the Chapter’s growth, while urging members to move beyond the election process and rally behind a shared vision of progress.

The significance of the leadership transition was further underscored by the presence and remarks of the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, who congratulated the newly elected executives and reiterated the state government’s readiness to partner with the Institute.

Prince Kanu assured that the administration of Governor Alex Otti remains committed to constructive engagement with professional bodies, especially in promoting responsible communication, ethical standards, and good governance across the state.

He urged the new leadership to uphold the highest ideals of the public relations profession, noting that effective communication remains critical to public trust and institutional credibility.

Also speaking, the National President of NIPR charged the new executives to sustain the Chapter as a formidable professional body and align its operations with global best practices. He highlighted recent amendments to the Institute’s Bye-Laws, which now empower state chapters to establish functional branches such as Aba and Umuahia to enhance participation and coordination.

Other officers elected into the new executive include Ikechukwu-Odionyenfe Oluchi as Vice Chairman; Ori Innocent-Onuoha as Secretary; Victor Onwuka as Assistant Secretary; Grace Gbagi as Financial Secretary; Onyinyechi Obi as Treasurer; Promise Uzoma Okoro (PUO) as Public Relations Officer; Cletus Nwankwo as Auditor; and Amaka Unamba as Welfare Officer.

Meanwhile, the immediate past Chairman, Deacon Olunkwa Felix, alongside Sir OJ Bob Amanze, was elected as Ex-Officio members of the Chapter, ensuring continuity and institutional memory.
