An attack at a hotel in Akwa Ibom state early this month was foiled by police, with a man, alongside two vehicles, rescued.
The Drainage View Hotel attack at Nung Oku, Ibesikpo Asutan local government area was an armed robbery attack, according to Ekemini Akpan, who was rescued by police personnel.
An Opel car with number plate KEF 306 AA belonging to him – and another black Toyota 4Runner with number plate BWR 561 HK – were recovered at the scene.
States Police Spokesman SP Odiko MacDon said on Tuesday June 15 that the incident happened on 1 June 2021 around 12am.
In a statement, he said a distressed call of an ongoing armed robbery attack was received, and when the Quick Intervention Unit and Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Police were mobilised to the scene, the hoodlums took to their heels and scaled the high gate.
He said: “On sighting the police operatives, the hoodlums started shooting and escaped through the back fence and abandoned a black Toyota 4Runner with number plate BWR 561 HK, which was reported to have been stolen at gunpoint at the Ultimate filling station, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, on May 29, 2021, around 11.45 am.”
