Gratitude or Strategy? Ifeanyi Uchendu Publicly Bows to Otti, Credits Him for Transforming Amaekpu Ohafia | READ DETAILS

Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu has shocked political observers with an open letter thanking Governor Alex Otti and Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu for transforming his community. Is it gratitude or a deeper political move? Read full.

In a dramatic turn that has stirred political circles in Abia State, former Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu, has poured out glowing praises for Governor Alex Otti and his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, over what he describes as “unbelievable development” in his native Amaekpu Ohafia community.

In a public statement laced with emotion and admiration, Uchendu expressed what he called “deep gratitude and joy,” saying that the roads and infrastructure now present in his community were things many never believed would happen “in our lifetime.”

“What many of us never believed would happen has become a reality—good roads even deep inside our community! The level of development is truly beyond words,” Uchendu wrote.

But it didn’t stop there.

In a rare show of political humility, Uchendu declared that he would never ask Governor Otti for anything, even if the Governor stayed in office for a full eight years.

“I do not need anything from you, not even if you stay eight years in office. But I cannot keep quiet seeing the good you have done in my community. I must say a big thank you! And if there were a word greater than ‘thank you,’ I would surely say it.”

Analysts are already interpreting this unprecedented show of appreciation as both a sincere acknowledgment and a political olive branch to the Otti-led Labour Party government—coming from a key figure of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Uchendu, who once wielded considerable influence as a top PDP lawmaker and powerbroker in Ohafia, singled out Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu for special commendation, describing him as a “talk and do” leader who has written his name in gold in the hearts of the people.

“You have given Amaekpu Ohafia a new look—one we now wear with great pride. You have proven to be a ‘talk and do’ leader, and your people are proud of you,” he wrote to Emetu, who also hails from the Ohafia region.

The glowing tribute is seen as more than a mere thank-you note. Political watchers view Uchendu’s public praise as a possible signal of shifting political alliances or at least a calculated attempt to stay relevant under the current Labour Party administration.

“You have found a gem in your Deputy Governor, and you are indeed lucky to be working with such a young, visionary, and vibrant man,” Uchendu said to Otti, further fuelling speculation about growing admiration for the new leadership style in the state.

While the message is deeply emotional and thankful, its timing and tone are raising questions: Is this a genuine appreciation? Or is this a strategic realignment amid the PDP’s internal disarray and Alex Otti’s rising popularity?

Uchendu closed his message with prayers for divine wisdom, strength, and good health for the duo of Otti and Emetu, urging them to “carry Abia State to greater heights.”

With 2027 on the horizon and new political calculations already underway, this unusual message of thanks may well be the first sign of bigger surprises to come in Abia’s political theatre.
