Governor Alex Otti has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Abia State, confirming that Port Harcourt Road, Aba, will be commissioned by May 29, 2025. He also explained why he operates from his private residence, prioritizing infrastructure and public service over personal convenience.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced that the long-awaited reconstruction and expansion of Port Harcourt Road in Aba, handled by Julius Berger Construction Company, will be completed and commissioned by May 29, 2025. The governor made this revelation during his monthly media briefing tagged “Governor Otti Speaks to Abians.”
Governor Otti reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to driving massive infrastructural development, stressing that his government is in a hurry to transform all sectors of the state’s economy.
“We don’t have time. We are in a hurry. So, we have to do so many things at the same time. Before you know it, four years will be over, and we do not want to look back wondering what happened. That is why, even before we were sworn in, we brought Julius Berger to Port Harcourt Road to start the road design,” Governor Otti stated.
He noted that despite skepticism from some quarters, his administration’s proactive approach was aimed at maximizing time and ensuring that critical projects are delivered within set timelines.
Multiple Projects Underway Across Abia
The governor also provided updates on other critical infrastructural projects, including the ongoing expansion of Library Avenue (popularly known as Bank Road), which is expected to be completed by the end of March 2025.
Additionally, he highlighted progress on various road construction sites across the state, including the recently flagged-off Omenuko Bridge. He further disclosed plans to commence work on Owaza Road in Ukwa West Local Government Area, with the flag-off scheduled for the coming week.
Efforts to Improve Power Supply and Security
Governor Otti assured Abians that significant efforts are being made to improve power supply across the state, stating that arrangements are in place to enhance electricity availability and stability.
On security, he commended the combined efforts of security agencies in maintaining peace, noting that the proactive measures his administration has implemented have yielded remarkable improvements in security across Abia State.
Governor Otti Addresses Concerns Over His Use of Private Residence
Responding to concerns about why he continues to work from his private residence rather than the Government House in Umuahia, Governor Otti explained that his priority is delivering results to Abians rather than focusing on personal comfort.
“People are worried about where I operate from, but I don’t think that should be the issue. The important thing is that I am working, and Abians want to see results, not where their governor stays. Where I live is not as important as having good roads in Aba, Umuahia, and other parts of Abia State. It is not as important as ensuring clean cities, functional hospitals, and quality schools for our children,” the governor emphasized.
He further disclosed that the Government House was looted and rendered unusable by appointees of the immediate past administration, requiring substantial renovation. However, he assured Abians that the Government House would be fixed in due course.
“When I inspected the Governor’s Lodge and Office, they were in terrible states of disrepair, vandalized, and looted. Renovating them requires significant funds, but I considered it more urgent to channel those resources into infrastructure, security, health, environment, and education. Once we have addressed these critical areas, we will fix the Government House,” Governor Otti assured.
Commitment to Lasting Development
Governor Otti reiterated that his decisions are guided by the best interests of the people and the need to lay a solid foundation for sustainable development in Abia State. He assured that every action taken by his administration is aimed at ensuring a better quality of life for Abians.
